This ginger tea is very simple to make with just three ingredients. It helps calm your gut and decrease bloating. It is my go-to drink when I have an IBS flare up. Ginger can be a strong, overpowering flavor, but using fresh helps cut down on that spicy flavor.
The three ingredients you will need are fresh ginger, lemon juice (fresh or concentrate), and real maple syrup. You could also use honey, but it is a high FODMAP sweetener for those who have IBS.
Did you know that ginger is a carminative which means it helps alleviate bloating, gas and cramps by calming the intestinal tract and removing excess gas. Ginger also stimulates the body's natural digestive enzymes and is anti-inflammatory.
I like to peel then slice my ginger. You can however, leave the skin on. I also use lemon concentrate because I always have it on hand.
Start by heating your water, I just like to heat mine in the microwave for ease. Then add your ginger, lemon, and maple syrup to your water. Then stir. You can add your ginger to your water before heating it but this will make a stronger ginger flavor.
Sip and enjoy your gut calming drink!
Ingredients
[Serves 1]
2-3 slices of fresh ginger
1 tsp lemon juice (fresh or concentrate)
1-2 tsp real maple syrup
1 1/2 - 2 cups hot water
Directions
Start by washing then peeling a part of your ginger. Then slice 2-3 pieces. The exact size does not matter.
Measure out your water (or just fill your mug) and heat in a microwave safe mug for about 2 minutes.
Next add your ginger slices to your hot water. Or add your ginger before heating your water for a stronger ginger flavor.
Now add your lemon juice and maple syrup. Stir until everything is mixed in.
Enjoy!
